James Simpson’s ‘Watch Loads of Films in 2014 Mission’ February Update

Image

Hi to our few, but dedicated, readers. I hope you have been trying your best to watch a film a day as Mark and I, the idiots behind this website, try our best to view at least one movie every day of 2014.

I’m afraid I took my foot off the gas in February as I only watch 57 movies compared to January’s 89. The last two weeks of Feb I cut my viewing greatly from 3 a day to just 1. I was busy doing stuff outside of my house, having a life some cynics would say, which felt odd after becoming a social hermit during Jan.

As always, the following list will have the movie title, the date viewed and a letter representing the format that was used. Here is the key:

(b) – blu-ray, (c) – cinema, (d) – DVD, (tv) – TV, (v) – Video

ENJOY.

365 movies week two update

Welcome back to the second post of the 365 movie challenge the second week seen 10 new movies added to the list and as of the 13th January the tally is 18. now without further ado onto the movies

Movie Number Nine: Olympus has Fallen

Gerard Butler and Arron Eckhart star in this presidential action flick, with an excellent performance from Butler and a solid story this one is worth checking out one of the better movies I have seen this week.

Movie Number Ten: Insidious Chapter 2

INSIDIOUS-2-International-Poster-01

Impressive sequel to the surprising hit Insidious which for me is surpassed by this movie. The pacing was better the scares weren’t as often as in the first movie but overall is a worthy sequel.

solidly acted and well directed by haunted house guru James Wan this comes recommended.

The blu Ray package has some worthy features including three webisodes which concern the paranormal investigators who for me are the highlight of the series.

Movie Number Eleven: Shadowzone.

Full moon features are putting out some great little titles of late and this Alien/The thing clone starring James Hong is a fun little movie which sadly suffers from an anti climatic ending.

Late 80s sci-fi romp and a great way to kill and hour or so.

Movie Number twelve: Def Con 4

This little oddity is streaming on UK netflix but don’t be fooled by the cover artwork as its nothing like the movie!

Three astronauts return to earth after a nuclear fallout to find that the surviving populace are not friendly, odd dialogue and some genuinely creepy characters (one hill-billy survivor threatens an astronaut and enquires about the size and shape of a woman’s nipples?! then agrees to take half his food and her!).

Give this one a miss.

Movie number Thirteen: The Water-boy

One of Adam Sandler’s better movies, the titular water boy discovers he can play american football as a linebacker and becomes essential to the teams success.

Most of the Happy Madison cast are here and there are some great laugh out loud movies and a cameo by none other than the Big Show!

Movie number fourteen: Aftershock

Eli Roth presents this disaster-cum-survival flick, a group of people partying in Chile find themselves stranded after an earthquake, half way through proceedings turn for the worst as a bunch of convicts have also escaped and deicide to hunt the group down.

Gory but sadly unable to keep consistent, sparks of genius are doted throughout but sadly never amass to much.

Movie Number Fifteen: Paranormal Activity The Marked Ones

AVOID. The first film I seen theatrically this year is probably a contender for the worst.

Movie Number Sixteen: ChromeSkull Laid to Rest 2

ChromeSkull_001

Another movie which was surprisingly good, the sequel to laid to rest is a gory, action packed slasher movie and the titular character could easily hold a franchise, some innovative weaponry, brutal kills with excellently produced practical effects and an captivating story make this a underrated and unappreciated gem made even better I only paid £1 for the DVD in a local supermarket.

Movie Number Seventeen Lady Snowblood.

Excellent Arrow films release of the movie that inspired Tarantino’s Kill Bill Series, This revenge action is laden with beautiful set design, graphic violence and a quest for vengeance that will hold the viewers attention tighter than a vice.

Expect a longer review in the near future.

Movie Number Eighteen Aerobicide ( Killer Workout)

images

80s slasher cheese with an extra side of chedder, filled with exploitative shots of ladies exercising , tons of T&A on display and an inventive weapon choice (a giant Safety pin?!) this is about where the fun ends though, one scene has two muscleheads punch the living daylights out of each other only to both leave the encounter unhurt and unmarked! full blown punches to the face!

Another has a hapless (and Topless) victim stabbed repeatedly only to low and behold not have a mark on her!

Watch with a bunch of friends and enjoy the terrible acting, horrible 80s pop music and crazy fashion choices.

You’ve been warned.

365 Movies in 2014

2014 is here finally and as with every year people around the globe make resolutions and then try their best to fulfil them; I’m no different and have decided to undertake the mammoth task of watching at least 365 movies this year, equivalent of one a day which sadly due to work restraints I probably won’t be able to undertake as a one per day challenge, instead I’m just aiming to watch and chronicle at least 365 films over the year (a cop out I. Know but hey cut me some slack!).

Some films will have full reviews (as many as time allows to write) and other will be compiled in a run down blog post numbered for your convenience nearer the end of a week.

Motel Hell Poster

Motel Hell Poster

It is now the 2nd of January and the film that got the ball rolling was the 1980 horror comedy Motel Hell, an enjoyable tale of two motel owners whom are inventive and resourceful in their meat production business; think Solent green meets Texas Chainsaw in a gloriously delirious and humorous adventure.

The second movie which I viewed divided audiences on its release in 2013 and is the much discussed Evil Dead remake personally I loved it, finding it inventive, gory and stylish. This was the fourth time I’ve seen it (also it was a rare occurrence that I seen this movie twice theatrically)

Evil-dead

Thanks for taking the time to read this first post and hope that you are all along for the ride for the next 363(at least) movies I intend to watch.

As always I am open to suggestions and recommendations of any genre and look forward to hearing your feedback.

Happy new year to all.
